San Juan - As is a tradition in the Department of Housing, on June 3, the Secretary of the Department of Housing Ciary Pérez Peña, the Undersecretary of the agency, Omar Figueroa and the new Assistant Secretary of Human Resources, Arleen Barreto, welcomed 88 young children, stepchildren or guardians of employees of the Department, its CDBG-DR/MIT Disaster Recovery Program and the agency attached to the DV, the Public Housing Administration, AVP. These young people will participate in an employment opportunity until July 18, many of which will be their first work experience.
In addressing those present, Secretary Pérez Peña said, “It is an honor for us at the Department of Housing to welcome you young people, children and families of our regular employees. In some cases, it will be your first employment opportunity and I hope you can take advantage of it. We are like one big family and that's why we welcome you to this house, which is the Department of Housing.”
For his part, Undersecretary Figueroa, affirming the importance of what will be assigned to him, said “some of you will be in this central building for Housing, AVP or CDBG-DR/MIT recovery program. But others, due to the location of their homes, will report to work in one of our 12 regional offices across the island. Therefore, we cordially welcome them and that they enjoy their work in the assigned areas”.
After these messages, they were offered an educational talk entitled, “Managing emotions in the face of difficulties with friends, family and at work”, offered by Mr. Edgardo Reyes Matos, representative of Multidisciplinary Services at the San Lucas Hospital.
Participants fluctuate between the ages of 16 and 20. For those who are under 18, Department of Labor personnel, Mr. Carlos Maldonado and other personnel from that agency, produced several Employment Permit Certificates for minors, so that they could comply with Puerto Rico's Labor Law.
