Carolina – The Department of Housing’s Emergency Management Office and its attached agency, the Public Housing Administration (AVP), continue to offer shelter management and administration workshops for employees of the 16 management agents and the municipality of Camuy, who oversee the 328 public housing complexes on the island. These workshops are designed to review the established processes for opening, managing, and closing shelters and are held annually, as the Department of Housing is part of the Puerto Rico government's emergency component under its 6th category, which mandates the management, administration, and mass care of the population when an emergency or disaster is declared.
Both the Secretary of the Department of Housing, Luis Augusto Martínez Román, and the AVP Administrator, Juan Rosario Hernández, recognize the importance of these workshops and the Emergency Management Office led by Mr. Antonio Morales, and they support these initiatives to ensure readiness for any eventuality.
