The Department of Housing celebrated "Love and Friendship Day" in a unique way. The main entrance and rotunda of the agency's main building on Barbosa Avenue in Hato Rey were transformed into a "Friendship Market," where over twenty entrepreneurs from various public housing developments participated in showcasing their products and services to employees, visitors, and suppliers who were at the agency on February 14th.
Among the products offered were jewelry, artisanal soaps, body lotions, ribbons, items made from organic materials such as coconut, desserts, and cakes. There was also a barista offering coffee and hot chocolate, and even a DJ entertained the occasion.
Both the Secretary of the Department of Housing, William Rodríguez, and the Public Housing Administrator, Alejandro Salgado, were able to share and purchase from these entrepreneurs, who are residents of Public Housing Administration (PHA) projects.
These residents are trained and participate in the Economic Development Microenterprise Program of the AVP's Community and Resident Programs Area, directed by Assistant Administrator Laura Díaz, in collaboration with the agency's 10 managing agents who manage the 328 public housing developments in the same number of AVP regions. The purpose of this program is to help them achieve economic self-sufficiency for themselves, their families, and their communities.
