San Juan, Puerto Rico – The Secretary of the Department of Housing (DV), Ciary Pérez Peña, announced today the signing of the deeds that officially make Tania Rodríguez Vélez and Iraida Martínez and Félix Hernández the owners of the property. They will reside in the Vista Hermosa neighborhood in Juana Díaz. Both families had lost their homes after Hurricane Maria in 2017; with this action, the Department reinforces its commitment to providing stability and progress to the most vulnerable sectors of the population.
“Signing these deeds means that these families finally have their own safe home. Our goal is for every Puerto Rican to achieve the same,” said Pérez Peña after signing the documents.
Each property was acquired for $60,000 thanks to the integration of multiple financing sources. American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds provided a direct subsidy of $23,640 per unit, while the Direct Homebuyer Assistance Program (DBA) through CDBG-DR (Code of Conduct for Homeowners) contributed additional assistance to cover down payments and closing costs. The Housing Finance Authority (UFA) facilitated mortgages with preferential rates adjusted to family income.
Vista Hermosa, a 38-unit development built with resilience and affordability standards, has already sold eight residences and is currently undergoing credit evaluation for thirty families. The Department of Housing aims to complete all units by the end of 2025, replicating this assistance model in projects such as Villas de Coamo and Balcones Las Catalinas in Caguas, so that more Puerto Ricans can achieve their dream of homeownership.
