Department of Housing prepares 6-year Action Plan

March 20, 2023

An interesting workshop was recently held with representatives from some 16 state, federal, and municipal public agencies, including the Housing Department (DV) and its Public Housing Administration (AVP), the Housing Finance Authority (AFV), the Department of Family, Corrections, and Health, the Federal Housing Department (HUD), the Federation and Association of Mayors, among others, to outline an action plan for housing development for the 2024-2030 six-year term.

As explained by Assistant Secretary of Planning Mabel Santiago, by executive order of Governor Pedro Pierluisi, the Planning Committee was created, designating the Housing Department as the coordinator of the Committee that will propose streamlining and updating the State Housing Plan. It is hoped that this instrument will capture and integrate the efforts, programs, and activities necessary for reconstruction following the natural disasters of Irma, María, and the 2020 earthquakes, as well as new initiatives and public policies that promote the development of housing as an economic and social industry for the benefit of every citizen of Puerto Rico.

The panelists at the first Interagency Meeting were Graham Castillo, Esq., and Anitza Cox, Esq., president and consultant of the Social Policy Analysis Division of Estudios Técnicos Inc., in which they summarized the efforts to provide a home to every Puerto Rican in an adequate, expeditious, and orderly manner for the next six years.
