January 15, 2025

The designated Secretary of Housing, Ciary Pérez Peña, was welcomed by hundreds of employees from the Department, its affiliated agency, the Public Housing Administration (AVP), and the CDBG-DR/MIT disaster recovery program, at an event held at the Juan César Cordero Dávila Building, the agency's headquarters.

That morning, Pérez Peña toured the central building floor by floor, greeting employees, introducing herself and spending time with them in their respective offices.

In the afternoon, the employees gathered at the main entrance of the Juan César Cordero Dávila Housing Central Building in Hato Rey, where the designated secretary announced her plans for immediately fulfilling her new duties. She called on those present to "join her in continuing the reconstruction and recovery efforts following the disasters of María, Isaac, Fiona, and the 2020 earthquakes. It is our commitment, and that of our Governor Jennifer González Colón, to work so that all families can have a decent and safe home. We will continue with the plans outlined so far and will expand them, but I will not be alone. When I get home, I count on all of you, and we hope to give new impetus to the programs and services that our people need most." Her words were met with strong applause from the employees.

Secretary Pérez Peña is no stranger to the agency. After working alongside current Governor Jennifer González Colón in the legislature for more than 15 years, she was selected as the regional director of the Housing Office in the Caguas region. And after Hurricane Maria, she was appointed and served for nearly two years as director of the regional Housing offices in Caguas and Humacao simultaneously.

After that experience, Pérez Peña held an important position in the office of then-Resident Commissioner and now Governor Jennifer González Colón. From there, she was appointed deputy electoral commissioner at the State Elections Commission, a position she held until she was selected by the President as her Secretary of the Department of Housing.

With this professional background, the designated secretary pledged to her employees to keep their doors open to suggestions and work for the well-being of all Puerto Ricans.

"I have returned to this home, to the great Housing family, entrusted to me by our Governor Jennifer González Colón. My commitment is to fulfill the goals set in this new administration, and I know I have the support of all of you to achieve them. It is possible that, along the way, we may encounter obstacles or setbacks, but together, we can improve the quality of life for our people. And you can rest assured that I will listen to your comments, suggestions, and ideas on how to make things better for Puerto Rico and its people."

The event concluded with congratulations from those present to the new secretary, who thanked everyone for their welcome and support. She reiterated that her office, email address, and phone extension would be available to all employees.
