San Juan – “A Coffee Break with the Secretary” was the theme of a fun activity for all employees of the Department of Housing (DV). Secretary Ciary Pérez Peña, Undersecretary Omar Figueroa, Public Housing Administrator Juan A. Rosario, and Deputy Administrator Alberto Fradera took time out on the Friday before the Memorial Day long weekend to share and discuss with employees of both agencies and the DV CDBG-DR/MIT Disaster Recovery Program what these first five months of intense, nonstop work have been like. They also enjoyed a delicious cup of coffee with a local barista.
The occasion also served to discuss the Department's plans for the upcoming hurricane season, which begins Sunday, June 1st, and runs through November 30th. During the event, an increase in the benefits was announced for all DV, PHA, and CDBG-DR/MIT employees. These employees, along with the employees of the ten administrative agents of the 328 public housing developments, comprise the Emergency Management Committee.
On this occasion, Secretary Pérez Peña announced that any employee will have the opportunity to make themselves available and be part of the Committee, assisting both PHA communities and the general public in times of emergencies or natural disasters that require opening and managing shelters. According to the State Emergency Management Plan, the Department of Housing has the role of mass management, EFS 6, according to the federal emergency plan, which entails opening and managing shelters requested by mayors through the Emergency Management and Disaster Administration Bureau (NMEAD).
