San Juan – As graduation season approaches, and with the sponsorship and joint efforts of the Department of Housing, its affiliated agency, the Public Housing Administration (PHA), the Department of Education, and the Tourism Company, with special guest Governor Jennifer González Colón, the "One Dress, 78 Smiles" event was held at the iconic Government of Puerto Rico Reception Center in Old San Juan.
At the event, 78 young women from the same number of Public Housing developments who will graduate this year were selected. Participating in the event were Governor González Colón, Secretary of Housing Ciary Pérez Peña, PHA Administrator Juan A. Rosario Hernández, Secretary of Education Eliezer Ramos Parés, and Tourism Company Director Willianete Robles Cancel.
At the event, approximately 78 young women, one from each municipality and candidates for high school graduation, received dresses for their prom, makeup, and hair styling. The honorees were welcomed by officials, who offered messages of encouragement and enthusiasm for the upcoming stage of life they are about to begin after their graduation ceremonies.
Secretary Pérez Peña stated, “We thank all the volunteers from the Department of Housing, the Public Housing Administration, the Department of Education, and the Tourism Company, as well as all agencies of the Government of Puerto Rico, and the mayors and municipal representatives who gathered to support each graduate, creating beautiful memories in the lives of these young women.”
