San Juan – The Sixth Annual “Our Resident’s Got Talent” was a resounding success, a premier event that brings together the talents of children, youth, and adults from the island’s public housing projects. The event was held at the José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum in Hato Rey, a major arts and sports venue. The show was enjoyed by hundreds of residents from across Puerto Rico who came to support their groups or talents. The residents and groups were selected through nine auditions held across the island during April and May of this year.
Participating in the event, the Secretary of the Department of Housing, Ciary Pérez Peña, stated, “This is the kind of initiative the government places in the hands of our residents. We see that there is hope, success can be achieved, and this could be the future for many of them. I am excited for the next auditions because this project means so much to all of us.”
The more than 500 participants in this grand finale performed individually or as a group, singing, dancing, imitating, and other activities, in an unforgettable evening that celebrated the potential of the participants and reaffirmed the value of opportunities for all.
For his part, Juan Antonio Rosario Hernández, administrator of the Public Housing Administration (PHA), which oversees Puerto Rico's 328 public housing complexes, stated, "This event demonstrates the capacity and talent of our residents, that they can reinvent themselves even in the face of adversity. This is an example of the essence of our public housing developments in Puerto Rico, which are full of talent, values, commitment, and education."
