La Fortaleza – As part of Governor Jenniffer González Colón's initiatives to accelerate the island's reconstruction efforts following Hurricanes Irma and María, the 2020 earthquakes, Hurricane Isaias, Hurricane Fiona, and the 2022 floods, she signed, along with the Secretary of the Department of Housing, Ciary Pérez Peña, and several agency heads, the Executive Order to create the Government of Puerto Rico Reconstruction Committee.
The committee will be a strategic body that will promote the development of projects under construction or those still in need of design and construction, eliminate government bureaucratic hurdles regarding permits, among other matters, and ensure that allocated public funds, whether state or federal, are used appropriately and translate into real progress for our people.
This committee will bring together leaders from key agencies, including Housing Secretary Ciary Pérez Peña, to coordinate efforts, overcome obstacles, and simultaneously provide public transparency on the progress of reconstruction projects and construction, including in the affected communities of the Public Housing Administration (PHA), an agency attached to the Department.
