Vieques – For Governor Jenifer González Colón's administration, the development of municipalities and improved citizen access to services are top priorities. The Governor visited Vieques, where, along with Mayor José Corcino and Secretary of the Department of Housing Ciary Pérez Peña, she laid the first stone for the rehabilitation of the J. Gautier Benítez building in Vieques, the current headquarters of various community organizations. The project represents an investment of $3,846,481.73 in federal CDBG-DR/MIT rehabilitation and reconstruction funds from the Department of Housing.
The project also includes the creation of a market square for social and community transformation. This market will feature a farmers market where local small-scale farmers can offer fresh produce, thus promoting a solidarity economy and sustainable food access on Vieques.
