Although we are on school vacation, the 24 children at the Department of Housing's Day Care Center recently had a very special day, arriving dressed as their favorite professions. This was part of their educational and recreational activities during this vacation period. The children are children and grandchildren of employees of the Department, its affiliated agency, the Public Housing Administration (AVP), and the CDBG-DR program.
The children included doctors, firefighters, nurses, astronauts, and others. The activity, which took place in the Department's Multipurpose Room, also included an educational talk, appropriate to the children's ages and their future career aspirations, led by Ms. Olfa Duran, who directs the Employee Assistance Program.
The teaching staff, including Ms. Nayda Valcárcel and Ms. Rosa Cordero, teacher assistants for children ages 2 to 3, Ms. Mayra Escalera, teacher assistant for children ages 3 to 4, and Ms. Carmen Negrón, preschool teacher for children in grade 4, led by Laura Dávila, listened to their students about why they were interested in the professions they chose to wear that day.
The activity concluded with a screening of an animated film for the little ones and a lunch prepared by kitchen manager Ederlidis Cordero and prepared by cook Wanda Alamo. This center is attached to the Assistant Secretary of Human Resources of the Department of Housing, headed by Lisneida Nieves.
