(December 2, 2025 - San Juan, Puerto Rico) - Secretary of the Department of Housing, Ciary Pérez Peña, and Public Housing Administrator, Juan Rosario Hernández, led the Crusade Against Air Gunfire, which traveled along the main roads of San Juan, spreading a message of prevention.

"Today we impacted our communities with a clear message: every life is precious, and we cannot allow any to be extinguished by air gunfire. During this festive season, Puerto Rico deserves to enjoy time with family, share, and celebrate the birth of Jesus, who fills us with hope. We will continue to be spokespeople for this initiative, as instructed by the Governor along with other agencies, so that our children can celebrate in an environment full of love and joy," the Secretary stated.

The caravan, which included representatives from all 328 public housing complexes in Puerto Rico, traveled through the Manuel A. Pérez, Juan C. Cordero, Luis Lloréns Torres, Las Margaritas I and II, and Fray Bartolomé de las Casas public housing complexes. in addition to residential and commercial areas in Río Piedras, Hato Rey, Santurce, Miramar, Old San Juan, and Condado.

"At the Public Housing Administration, we are committed to ensuring this message reaches every corner of Puerto Rico. We thank community leader Roberto Pérez Santoni, known as 'Papo Christian,' who established this initiative that, for 22 years, has been educating and guiding everyone in Puerto Rico. The most recent fatality from celebratory gunfire was young Karla Michelle Negrón, and in her memory, we don't want another Puerto Rican family to suffer that pain," added Rosario Hernández.

Police Superintendent Joseph González participated in the event and emphasized the importance of reporting those who fire shots into the air.

“The practice of firing into the air is a real threat to our communities. Celebrating should not mean shooting. Firing bullets into the air is an illegal, dangerous, and deeply irresponsible act. As the Puerto Rico Police, we reiterate our call for prudence and respect for life. Preventing a tragedy is in everyone’s hands. That is why we are joining this caravan and wherever it is necessary to demand an end to this practice,” said González.

The event also included the participation of the mayor of San Juan, Miguel Romero; Representatives Ricardo Rey Ocasio and José Hernández; Papo Christian; Don Carlos Negrón, father of Karla Michelle; Ariel Torres, president of CODEPOLA; community leaders; and the managing agents of the public housing complexes. In addition, students from Manuel A. Pérez School participated in part of the route, joining the call for peace and unity for the future of Puerto Rico.
