San Juan - The Secretary of the Department of Housing, Ciary Pérez Peña, the Undersecretary, Omar Figueroa, and the Executive Director of the Housing Finance Authority (AFV), Ricardo Álvarez, witnessed the signing of the first case of the innovative mortgage financing program for young professionals, Vivienda Joven.
Gloriel Soto Maldonado, a computer engineer who graduated in 2023 from the Mayagüez University Campus, is the first young professional who, along with her family, signed the deeds for her new apartment in the Bosque Sereno condominium in Bayamón.
The signing took place at the Cooperativa de Ahorro y Crédito Oriental (Eastern Savings and Credit Cooperative), where its president, William Méndez, and his team guided this young woman throughout the process and worked closely with the AFV.
According to the Department's secretary, "This administration and our Governor, Jennifer González Colón, are committed to helping young Puerto Ricans interested in purchasing their first home have the opportunity through this program. It is important to note that the Puerto Rico Housing Finance Authority, through its social media channels or its website, www.afv.pr.gov, can find details about the application and qualification process for the program," stated Pérez Peña.
The Youth Housing Program has already conducted over 6,000 orientations through calls to the AFV, and dozens of people have been prequalified for the program.
