San Juan – Secretary of the Department of Housing, Ciary Pérez Peña, and Administrator of the Public Housing Administration, Juan A. Rosario Hernández, spoke with the media before a union demonstration by agency employees. The officials joined the demonstration, calling for action and diligence from the Fiscal Oversight Board.
Minutes later, Secretary Pérez Peña, Administrator Rosario Hernández, Undersecretary Omar Figueroa, Esq., and Deputy Administrator of the Public Housing Administration, Alberto Fradera, joined the unionized employees demonstrating in front of the Department of Housing headquarters. The employees were demanding the bonus and salary increase stipulated in their Collective Bargaining Agreement. They also held a direct, frank, and respectful dialogue with the leaders representing the unionized staff of the Department and the Public Housing Administration.
The official, who led the delegation, reiterated, "Since we began working at the Department of Housing and the Public Housing Administration, we have received union leadership in our offices to discuss, among other things, the bonus, the signing of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and the salary increase. We understand their demands and we stand in solidarity with them. We have been working tirelessly to address the situation, and for that reason, our budget includes these allocations. However, it is the Fiscal Oversight Board (FOB), to whom we have expressed our support for our colleagues, that is currently considering this matter," Secretary Ciary Pérez Peña stated to the union representatives, employees, and members of the press covering the events.
