Ponce, Puerto Rico (October 7, 2025) - As part of the Public Housing and Residential Care Week events, hundreds of seniors received services and participated in a well-attended event at the Coliseum of the Pontifical Catholic University of Ponce.

"For this week's program, we decided to reach out directly to our residents, offering them services, guidance, and a moment of joy, sharing with neighbors. Our priority has always been for them to feel appreciated and valued, as they are the reason our agencies exist," said Ciary Pérez Peña, Secretary of the Department of Housing.

For his part, Juan A. Rosario Hernández, Administrator of the Public Housing Administration (PHA), explained that participants enjoyed food stations, lemonade stands, Zumba classes, health insurance guidance, and job offers.

"Our residents often don't have the opportunity to travel to different locations to complete their errands. That's why we decided to integrate all services into one place and make the process easier for them. They also enjoyed healthy entertainment to distract their minds," he noted.

In addition to this activity, the Entrepreneurs Fair opened at Plaza del Caribe, where around twenty small merchants, all Public Housing participants, sold their products. The First Gentleman, Dr. José Yovín Vargas, participated in both activities and shared with the attendees.

"These initiatives promote the talent and self-management of the residents of our public housing developments in the south, who proudly present their handicrafts, baked goods, accessories, and much more. My wife, Governor Jenniffer González Colón, along with her Housing team, led by Secretary Ciary Pérez, continue to promote spaces that foster the economic and social development of our people," said the First Gentleman.

The Executive Director of the Administration for Socioeconomic Development of the Family (ADSEF), Ramón Burgos, and Senator Jamie Barlucea participated in the activities.

The entrepreneurs will be selling their products throughout the week in the Central Atrium of Plaza del Caribe, which also includes a 3-a-side court and a playground for children and young people to enjoy.
