(January 23, 2026 – Madrid, Spain) – The Secretary of the Department of Housing, Ciary Pérez Peña, announced that a plot of land adjacent to the residence of Ramona Cruz Sanabria in Aguadilla has once again been made available to her.
“In 2004, the Department of Housing expropriated land to relocate several families, including Ramona Cruz Sanabria. However, on several occasions and over several years, the Cruz Sanabria family declined this and other options. This afternoon, in a telephone conversation between the Undersecretary, Attorney Omar Figueroa, Ms. Cruz Sanabria, her family, and her legal representative, we explained that this option remains available, and we are awaiting their decision to begin the necessary procedures,” Pérez Peña stated.
The Secretary emphasized that Department of Housing personnel visited the Cruz Sanabria family on several occasions to discuss their case and offer the available alternatives.
“In conversations with the mayor of Aguadilla, Julio Roldán, and Senator Eliezer Molina, we informed them about this matter and the required procedures, once the family indicates whether they will accept ownership of the identified land. At the Department of Housing, we are fully prepared to assist this family. Our focus will always be on supporting communities and providing alternatives so that Puerto Rican families, especially our senior citizens, can have a better quality of life, as has been Governor Jennifer González Colón's commitment,” he concluded.
