As part of the efforts to create new housing on the island, Department of Housing Secretary William Rodríguez led the ceremony where 31 property titles were presented to families from Humacao and surrounding towns. The ceremony was attended by Humacao Mayor Julio Geigel, Maunabo Mayor Ángel Omar Lafuente Amaro, Senator Wandy Soto of that district, and Representative Sol Higgins of that district and Representative-at-Large Jose Enrique Kikito Meléndez. Addressing those present, Secretary Rodríguez emphasized that "it is my commitment, as well as that of Governor Pedro Pierluisi's administration, to deliver as many property titles as our beneficiaries request and can be delivered. Sometimes it takes years or even decades for these families to obtain their titles, but they are the ones who must apply. We are willing to guide and help those who need it achieve their dream of owning not only the structure but also the lot, which belongs to the Housing Department. Therefore, we will continue working to ensure that everyone has a safe home."
During the event, an agreement was also reached with the municipality of Humacao and its mayor, Julio Geigel, whereby the municipality will take over some structures belonging to the Department of Housing and transform them into housing units for the city's aging population.
Finally, approximately 15 families in the region received aid for construction materials for minor home improvements, and the same number of vouchers totaling $14,522.15 were distributed.
