The Department of Housing and the Public Housing Administration (AVP) strengthened their work agenda in southern communities with a visit to the Juan Ponce de León public housing complex in Ponce, where they met with community leaders to address their concerns firsthand.

The acting Secretary of the Department of Housing, Luis Augusto Martínez Román, and the Administrator of the AVP, Juan Rosario Hernández, led the visit along with their teams, beginning with a tour of the complex to learn directly about the residents' conditions and concerns. They then participated in a meeting with the Coalition of Presidents of Residents' Councils in Southern Puerto Rico, in an open dialogue focused on addressing concerns and providing guidance on key processes.

During the meeting, an update was provided on waiting lists, reasonable accommodations, current regulations and policies, as well as the ongoing processes to address residents' needs, clarifying doubts and outlining available alternatives.

“Direct contact with our communities allows us to refine program implementation and respond more precisely to their needs. These types of meetings strengthen transparency, communication, and the effectiveness of our management, in accordance with Governor Jenniffer González Colón’s public policy to promote safer communities with a better quality of life,” said the acting secretary.

For his part, the Public Housing Administrator indicated that “the input we receive directly from the Council Presidents is key to strengthening our public housing management. These meetings allow us to follow up on specific situations, provide clear guidance on processes, and, above all, work in coordination with the communities to improve services and the quality of life in each housing complex.”

Both officials reiterated their commitment to continue evaluating and implementing measures that address the issues raised, as part of an agenda focused on the well-being and stability of public housing communities.
